Brookdale Senior Living Inc. has announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2026, marking a significant improvement in its financial health. The company reported a net loss of $13.9 million, a substantial decrease from the $114.7 million loss reported in the same quarter last year. Additionally, its adjusted EBITDA rose by 12% to $124.3 million, signaling a positive shift in operational efficiency.
Brookdale, a leading provider in the nursing and personal care facilities sector, is navigating a competitive landscape as it seeks to enhance its service offerings. The company's latest results highlight its ongoing recovery efforts and strategic focus on improving occupancy and revenue metrics.
According to the filing, Brookdale's revenue per available unit (RevPAR) increased by 7.5% year-over-year, while its consolidated weighted average occupancy improved by 130 basis points to 83.1%. These metrics reflect the company’s successful initiatives to attract and retain residents in its facilities.
Brookdale also announced the completion of the acquisition of 17 communities and plans to purchase an additional 30 leased communities. This expansion is expected to bolster its market presence and operational capacity.
Nick Stengle, Brookdale's Chief Executive Officer, commented on the third-quarter performance, stating, “During the third quarter, we continued to make significant progress against our key objectives, and we experienced improvement in occupancy, rate, net loss, and Adjusted EBITDA.” He noted that while the company met its Adjusted EBITDA targets, it fell short of its RevPAR goals due to slower occupancy growth late in the quarter.
Stengle also addressed the impact of a recent fire at one of Brookdale’s communities in Clinton, Mississippi, which affected revenue and expenses. As a result, the company has revised its full-year guidance for 2026 to an Adjusted EBITDA range of $495 million to $502 million, with RevPAR growth projected between 7.4% and 7.9%.
Brookdale's strategic moves and improved financial results may positively influence its operations and reputation in the nursing and personal care facilities sector. The company remains optimistic about its future growth and ability to capitalize on the increasing demand for senior housing services.
The filing does not specify what happens next regarding further strategic initiatives or additional filings.
